How to get your Google Meet transcript

Google Meet can transcribe a meeting for Google Workspace accounts (Business Standard and above). The transcript is saved as a Google Doc in the organizer’s Drive.

  1. Turn on transcription during the call In the meeting, open Activities (bottom-right) → Transcripts → Start transcription. Anyone can read it later; only the host can start it.
  2. Find the transcript after the meeting When the call ends, Google saves a transcript Google Doc to the organizer’s Drive in the “Meet Recordings” folder, and emails a link to the organizer.
  3. Copy the transcript text Open the transcript Doc, select all (Ctrl/Cmd+A), and copy (Ctrl/Cmd+C).
  4. Paste it into MinutesAI Paste into the box above and click “Summarize meeting”. You get a summary, decisions, and action items you can copy or download.

No transcript yet?

If your account can’t transcribe in Meet, you can still type or paste rough notes from the call — the tool will structure whatever text you give it. For recurring meetings, ask the organizer to turn on transcription so there’s a clean source each time.

Frequently asked questions

Does this join my Google Meet call?

No. No bot joins the call and there is nothing to install. You paste the transcript Google Meet already produced, and the notes are generated from that text.

Why can’t I find a transcript option in Google Meet?

Meet transcription requires an eligible Google Workspace plan (Business Standard and above), and only the meeting host can start it. On a personal Gmail account the option may not appear.

Where does Google save the Meet transcript?

As a Google Doc in the meeting organizer’s Google Drive, in the “Meet Recordings” folder. The organizer also receives an email with a link.

Is it free, and is my transcript stored?

Yes, it’s free with no signup. Your transcript is used only to generate the notes and is not stored on our servers.

Can it pull out who owns each action item?

Yes. When the transcript shows who agreed to do something, that person is listed as the owner of the action item, along with a due date if one was mentioned.
