How to get your Microsoft Teams transcript
Teams can transcribe a meeting live, then keeps the transcript in the meeting’s Recap. You can copy it or download it as a .docx or .vtt file.
- Start transcription in the meeting In the meeting controls, click More (…) → Record and transcribe → Start transcription.
- Open the meeting Recap afterward In Teams, go to your Calendar, open the meeting, and select the Recap tab (or open the meeting chat). The transcript appears there once processing finishes.
- Copy or download the transcript Open the Transcript and either select and copy the text, or use the download menu to save it as .docx or .vtt and open that file.
- Paste it into MinutesAI Paste the text above and click “Summarize meeting” for a summary, decisions, and action items.
Teams already has a recap — why use this?
Teams’ built-in recap is handy, but it lives inside Teams and follows your organization’s retention rules. Pasting the transcript here gives you a clean, portable Markdown copy — summary, decisions, and action items — that you can drop into Notion, a doc, or a CRM, without a bot or extra license.
Frequently asked questions
Does this add a bot to my Teams meeting?
No. Nothing joins the meeting and nothing is installed. You paste the transcript Teams already generated.
Where is the Teams meeting transcript after the call?
In the meeting’s Recap tab (open the meeting from your Teams Calendar) and in the meeting chat. From there you can copy it or download it as .docx or .vtt.
I downloaded a .vtt file — can I use that?
Yes. Open the .vtt or .docx file, copy the text, and paste it in. The timestamps and speaker labels are fine to include — they help the tool attribute action items.
Do I need a special Teams license?
Transcription is available on most business Teams plans, and the meeting organizer or a presenter usually needs to start it. Check with your IT admin if the option is missing.
Is it free and private?
Yes — free, no signup, and your transcript is used only to generate the notes and not stored on our servers.
